About CountMediQ
Built by a Pharmacist, for Pharmacists
CountMediQ was created by someone who spent years on the other side of the counter. Long shifts. Stacks of prescriptions. A counting tray that hasn't meaningfully changed in fifty years.
We didn't set out to build a startup. We set out to solve a problem we were living with every day.
Why We Built CountMediQ
Every pharmacist knows the math. A busy shift can mean several hundred prescriptions, and each one takes 10 to 15 seconds of manual counting. That's close to an hour of repetitive work, performed while managing patient consultations, insurance issues, and phone calls. Attention slips. Counts get redone. Errors creep in.
The available solutions never quite fit. Mechanical counting trays are slow. High-volume automated counters cost tens of thousands of dollars and aren't practical for independent pharmacies, clinics, nursing stations, or home caregivers. There was a gap between "tray and spatula" and "industrial dispensing robot," and nothing in the middle.
We believed the iPhone in every pharmacist's pocket could close that gap. So we built it.
What CountMediQ Does
CountMediQ uses image recognition trained specifically on pharmaceutical products to count pills from a single photo. The workflow is simple: spread pills on a flat surface, take a photo, get an accurate count in under two seconds. Results can be saved with drug names and notes, reviewed later, or shared with colleagues.
The app is designed to work across settings. Community pharmacies. Hospital dispensaries. Clinics. Veterinary practices. Clinical trial sites. Family caregivers managing weekly pill organizers.
One tool. Many workflows. No hardware to buy.
What We Stand For
Clinical accuracy first. Every change we ship is evaluated against real-world counting scenarios. Accuracy isn't a marketing number for us. It's the product.
Time back to the clinician. Every minute saved from counting is a minute returned to patient care. That is the outcome we measure ourselves against.
Built on real feedback. CountMediQ 2.0 exists because users told us what was broken and what was missing in the original release. We rebuilt the app end-to-end based on what we heard. That process doesn't stop with 2.0.
Practitioner-led, not investor-led. Product direction is driven by people who actually dispense medication, not by quarterly roadmaps.
The Technology Behind It
CountMediQ runs on image recognition models tuned for pharmaceutical form factors: round tablets, oval tablets, capsules, caplets, and irregular shapes. The model is continuously refined based on anonymized performance data and user-submitted edge cases.
We've focused on three technical priorities:
- Speed. Results in under two seconds on standard iPhone hardware.
- Robustness. Consistent performance across lighting conditions and pill densities.
- Privacy. Counts and images are not linked to personal identifiers. Subscribers who enable cloud backup retain full control of their data.
Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Where We're Headed
Version 2.0 is a foundation, not a finish line. Our roadmap includes expanded support for mixed-medication counts, integration options for pharmacy management systems, and workflow tools for multi-location teams. Each release is prioritized against a single question: does this save clinical time, reduce error, or both?
If it doesn't, we don't ship it.
